apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

House & Garden Roundup: April 15, 2004

a - cleani.jpgHigh maintenance & high design. This week's H&H section is so packed it took till today to boil it down for you. Of biggest note? Home Depot is coming to West 23rd Street! The raciest piece, on Jenna Jameson, is covered above, while the homiest piece is on a bachelor (pictured) who has just written a book on cleaning for men, "Clean Like a Man: Housekeeping for Men (and the Women Who Love Them)," which comes out this week.

In the Currents section, a cool new cafe, Ini Ani, opens on the Lower East Side, and features interior design by Lewis.Tsurumaki.Lewis and the imprints of 479 coffee cup lids. In "When Red Wine Meets White Marble," the problems surrounding cleaning expensive and high tech materials is delved into (not a problem in our apartment), while in "For the Hallway, the Little Table That Could," the problem of finding the right hall table/console is discussed and several solutions cited. The best? I would go for the Hola y Adios table ($495) at Design Within Reach, or the Ekhard sideboard ($299) from IKEA.

Ah, finally, the garden section! Ken Druse makes his pitch for the cheap, fast growing arborvitae, the evergreen hedge that is especially good at keeping your neighbors from peeking at your mansion. MGR
