Dining Room Rugs
Inspiration Gallery

We chose not to use a rug under our dining table, but browsing through photos of some of our favorite dining rooms has us thinking we might revise our plans...

We love the way these rugs anchor the table and soften the often-angular lines of a dining set. Our only fear is the possibility of spilling something, but a little club soda and salt usually does the trick on a fresh stain.

One tip to remember if you're rug shopping: make sure the rug is big enough to pull your chairs in and out without the chair leg catching on the edge of the rug.

These all look nice but I just cannot imagine the upkeep.

None of these examples show glass dining room tables like mine. do you think a rug would be too much with glass above it?

I think they can look nice when they're big enough. But my dining table is where we eat all of our meals. And even with a splash mat under her chair, my toddler manages to get food everywhere.

I don't think I'd want a rug even if I were childless or my daughter was older. Even adults spill. And aesthetically I kind of like the simplicity of the chair legs sitting right on the hardwood.

Well, second time you're actually behind my post. Just jokking of course. Might be a dream that AP would copy me. Anyhow i also made a post about rugs and some inspiration boards here: http://www.rdekko.com/2009/11/rugs-to-match.html Kisses AP.

These examples look nice, but there's no way I would ever put a rug under my table. I'm too klutzy! Red wine or marinara sauce would ruin it the first week.

Wear on the hardwood under my dining table was the reason I decided to buy a rug. I ordered FLOR tiles in a medium/dark color, and they've been really carefree. The nice thing has been being able to pick up a soiled tile and wash it in the sink as needed...
The rugs pictured are beautiful, but I don't know that they'd hold up in my house with two (sometimes) messy kids.

Like numbers 5, 6, & 8, our DR rug is a bit too small. But we still love it. And it gives a nice splash of color on the white terrazzo.
